uchooseit is delivered by :

• individuals who have personal experience of substance misuse who have themselves overcome some of the practical barriers faced by people with substance misuse issues

People who share a background of substance abuse are often able to build an instant rapport which can provide a valuable basis for discussion around a range of issues that may not have been covered by treatment workers.  Being able to access people in recovery can be extremely motivating for those considering change for themselves.

uchooseit works with services to :

• deliver support to your clients that adds value and responds to needs identified by your service users
• ensure that uchooseit clients are aware of and able to access the services you offer
• identify gaps in provision and develop creative ways of meeting diverse needs

Evidence has shown that the percentage of successful outcomes substantially increases when an individual’s needs are collectively addressed.

uchooseit will :

• provide volunteering and training opportunities for recovering individuals

There are currently only limited volunteering opportunities for motivated people who are in, or going through, the recovery journey.  UChooseIT will provide opportunities for individuals gain experience in a volunteering or placement capacity.

Who can access uchooseit ?

Anyone who has experienced problems with drugs or alcohol either directly or indirectly (i.e. as a carer or concerned other).  Individuals can be at any stage in their recovery journey and do not need to be abstinent or stable in their use.

Individuals under 19 will be referred directly to services relevant to their age group.
