Service Introduction

We learned that there are more hours in the day than we knew what to do with.  Having an addiction is a full time job and when you stop, well, there is a lot of space to fill.  We knew we wanted to move on and do something – but we weren’t sure what – and even if we knew what we wanted to do we found that lots of doors seemed to be closed.  Staying in recovery is hard when you feel you don’t have a future.

So we got together and created uchooseit.

How can uchooseit help me ?

uchooseit will work with you, as an individual, to look at the problems that you have and ways to solve them.  We have links with all sorts of agencies and organisations across Tameside and we can put you in touch with the people that you need to talk to.   It may be that you don’t need much support (you might just need a name or a phone number) or you may want a bit more help – someone to make a call for you or to go with you to an appointment.  You might want some help filling in forms or dealing with letters.  We’ve all been there so we all know how hard these things can be.

It could be that you are at the stage where you are looking for something to do to fill your time.  Maybe you are thinking about volunteering, doing a training course or finding a job.  We can help there too.

But whatever your situation uchooseit is about you choosing.  We will not push you into doing anything you don’t want to do (we know from experience that this doesn’t work).  What we will do is look at your options and give you the information that you need to make decisions for yourself.

Who can use uchooseit ?

Anyone who has had, or is having, problems with drugs or alcohol.  This could be directly as a user or indirectly as a carer or concerned other.  We do not expect you to be either clean or stable but we do ask, that when you see us (or someone we have put you in touch with), you are in a reasonable state.

Give us a call on 07875 549 934 – we will call you back if you are short on credit.  You can also e-mail us on This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .  You can also leave your contact details at Good Hope Mill, 98 Bentinck Street, Ashton-under-Lyne OL6 7SS – just ask reception to put your message in the uchooseit pigeonhole.  Unfortunately we can’t see you without making you an appointment at the moment but we hope this will change very soon.
